The India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale 2023 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the historic Red Fort in Delhi.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the landmark event featured seven core themes, including Samatva: Shaping the Built, which celebrated the contributions of the Top 75 women architects of India, featuring the prominently honoured, featured, displayed and published work of Architect Ishrat Nowshehri.

At WADE Asia, held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Architect Ishrat Nowshehri was featured and honoured alongside the leading women architects.
In addition to her design work being showcased at the prestigious platform, she contributed her insights as an esteemed panelist for the Changemakers session, discussing transformative ideas and leadership in architecture and design.
Designed by architect Ishrat Nowshehri, the project was conceived as a vibrant cultural and commercial hub to showcase traditional Kashmiri crafts while offering a dynamic public space within the city. The project was awarded for design by the late former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed
Following its inauguration in 2005, the architectural brilliance and community impact of the Haat garnered widespread acclaim, leading to extensive recognition and publication across media in 2006.
As one of Kashmir’s pioneering female architects, Ar. Ishrat Nowshehri sat down with Kashmir Life to reflect on over two decades of shaping the Valley's built environment.
In this interview, she discusses breaking barriers in a male-dominated field, blending traditional Kashmiri aesthetics with modern engineering and why professional planning and structural safety are non-negotiable in a seismic region.
